In the same vein as

Painting of a sketch I had doodled on my paper back at Momocon in March.

Unicorn, girl, lily - all together for a thematic reason in one image. In my head of many fairy tale universes (multiple, I'm afraid), this one more closely aligns to the Red Riding Hood and Swan Queen story lines than let's say the fairies or Boobear. Not that you need to know that, or why I gave this image this specific title.

Painted in Painter 11. (Combined a greyscale layer with a "colorize" layer and then used a few handy dandy built in patterns/pens for some of the backdrop stuff)
I looked at alot of nouveau stuff along the way... Mucha, some stuff suggested by :iconlc3: and realized that I had been thinking a lot about Tiffany (as in the glass guy) as well.

(Other than a few more touchups and perhaps some color tweaking to suit my print tastes, this is done)

I saw this at AWA and talked to you a little bit about it (and also about the one of you coloring on the walls with your sister... which reminded me of my daughters, and I just now bought as a print!). I wish this was a print on here too!

Love your work. :)

Ah hi there! I remember that conversation ...
that made me chuckle!

One of the weird things about the convention print was that it's actually done in a poster format and has a slightly longer length and a different type of paper. I'm not sure that DA can offer it in the dimensions that I felt I liked best, but I think they can offer it as a photo print (glossy) and in a smaller size. I'll be glad to look at the options and see what I can do if you would prefer it that way.

However, if you'd like the convention version let me know. That I can post in the U.S (shipping and handling included) easily.

Is this a take-off of the story of the maiden having to capture the unicorn? Lovely work here, I love the flow and how it is sorted out, largest image to smallest. This would make a really cool seal or something. Great work!

yes - exactly...this image is about purity (as I feel that's the essence of the unicorn). You have the lily, a unicorn, and this girl who is used to capture the other unicorn (the tiny child thing).

HEr history is actually abit more complicated than the stereotypical unicorn, but not something I want to discuss here xD

Ooh! I like it! The background seems different from your "regular" style. It reminds me of this particular artist that I can't recall the name of from the top of my head. LOL. I'll come back with the name when I go home next week and look at the mini postcard art book.

ah cool :) I've been playing around with Nouveau inspired stuff lately ... just been looking at different kinds of art and thinking about how/when to use some things. (Believe it or not, though, I look at a lot of modern/contemporary and haven't yet figured out what to do with that x) )

Finally got the name. The background style reminds me of Alphonse Mucha. Don't really know who he is but bought a postcard book of the art because I thought it looked cool.

LOL, yea, I've seen some modern/contemporary stuff and it's interesting in their odd ways. I'm sure you'll figure it out. (:

ah that's exactly what I was thinking about when I started (Mucha), as I was directed in that way ... I ended up not being able to carry out his style completely as that would have meant using a full figure (not a partial), but it definitely was something I kept in mind.

Maybe that's what makes it your own (art). Your artist eye saw things differently and I think it worked. (:

I find the layout really eye-catching. I'm impressed with the progress you've made on this so far. I regret that I haven't any truly useful input, though.

Whoo that's coming together! Nice colors! With all the flowers maybe you should be thinking more William Morris than Much.

William Morris of the arts & crafts movement. Made these beautiful floral patterns for wallpaper and fabric... you'd recognize them if you saw them.

Had a really great grasp of technology, that it should serve ppl rather than the other way around, and that you can create beautiful works of art that way.

It's a bit hard to find stuff from him (and a lot of what's on google images seems kind of muted). Do you have a book /art book with his stuff?

I think the text trivializes it though. Unless you're going for that sort of thing.

I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off! Oh and just some friendly critique, the unicorn's forelock looks a bit unnatural and you may want to have it blow the same direction as the rest of his mane to help keep with movement of the overall piece.
